Busby Wrote You a Letter
and how to keep the kids busy this summer 🌞
Hello! I’m Ben, executive director at the Phipps.
Welcome to The Flying P, a weekly newsletter covering your Phipps Center for the Arts and anything else I might want to throw your way.
Before we get into it, there are two things coming up from our pals over at the St. Croix Valley Opera that I think you should know about:
Hudson Bandshell Concert
July 16, 2026, at 7:00 PM - Lakefront Park
It’s the St. Croix Valley Opera. And it’s FREE. You can’t miss.Opera on the River
Saturday, July 25, 2026 - Lowell Park South, Stillwater, MN
If you’ve never attended this event, it’s time. It’s the perfect summer event. Do you need to love opera? NO. But you likely will end up loving it if you attend.
This issue has…

what a good boy🧙 Some Yellow-Brick-Roaders
dancing up a storm👦 Artsy Fartsy Kids
emphasis on the “artsy” (we hope)

EDUCATION
It begins.

Gang! Phipps Summer Arts Camp opens ON MONDAY!
AHHHHHHHHHH!!
We’ve been prepping and planning for months and have so much great stuff for the kiddos this summer — everything from Teen Digital Photography to a little something called Wackadoo Workshop (don’t ask), and everything in between.
If there’s a young person in your life who would benefit from some fun arts activities this summer, it’s definitely not too late. A new batch of camps starts up every week. Click HERE to see what’s what.
But don’t snooze on this. Camp enrollments have already surpassed where they ended last year, so it’s getting tight in those classrooms. Big huge mega standing ovation to Lee Ann for putting together such an awesome lineup of summer classes and instructors.
FUN KID PICS COMING NEXT TIME! 🎉

PROGRAMMING
Last call for 2025/26!

It’s your last chance to partake in the 2025/26 Phipps season, y’all. Our final event of this season is this coming Sunday at 2pm — Songs by Boys by Girls — and it’s bound to be a good one. It features Lori Dokken, who you may remember from last season’s smash hit I Am Woman …. which sold out pretty quickly.
In Songs by Boys by Girls, Lori and crew will be putting their unique spin on iconic songs made famous by legendary “boys” — including Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Elton John, The Beatles, and many more. Tickets are still available, so click HERE to grab one or three.
After that, we’re off to the races with the 2026/27 season, which kicks off on July 12th @ 1pm with the free outdoor puppet show from Open Eye Theatre called Tucker’s Robot. Grab a blanket and the littles and head to the PCA’s north lawn for that one.
Last weekend, we held a very well-attended First Look event for the upcoming Phipps Dance Theatre production Hooray for Hollywood (looking like it will be a blast) AND we got our publicity photos back (thanks Molly). Take a look below and grab your tickets, as the production opens on July 17th.
See you there!

my favorite gallery piece of the week
I’m a big fan of Jane’s work in the Riverview Gallery. Are you also a big fan? There’s no way to truly know unless you get to the Phipps to see it in person.
FUNDRAISING
“Didja get my letter?”
Sooooooo we’re approaching the end of the fiscal year (ours runs July 1st through June 30th), which means I have to hound you for money (pun intended).
We tried something a little atypical this year: a letter from Busby. Did you receive this? If not, click here to take a look. It’s a fairly light read. 😁
We still have a matching grant through the end of June. If you decide to make a donation (even a teeny-tiny one), it’ll be matched dollar-for-dollar and help the PCA make ends meet.
Just think about it. AND THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR THINKING ABOUT IT.
No crossword this today — instead, please enjoy this video of Busby getting his annual birthday Cheerios from Amanda (he recently turned 6). No, we don’t regularly give him cereal with milk and yes, we know it’s not the healthiest thing for a dog.
It was his birthday; don’t @ me.
