We got a space upgrade

Ever had so much dance that you didn’t know where to put it? Same!

Good thing for us, we have a Music Council that decided to come to the rescue. The council’s solution: let’s add dance flooring to the Music Room so it can be used for dance when not being used for music. COUNCIL COOPERATION!

Special flooring was needed because regular old tile flooring, although just fine for day-to-day use, is too hard for dancing. Dancers need something with a little more spring to help protect their joints.

The flooring installed has a [ahem] spongey [ahem] layer underneath it to help protect said joints (the black stuff).

Big ups to Tom and Carol Dahle, Greta Lewis, Anne and Leo Bachem, Mark Koski, and Gail O’Connor for dedicating part of their Friday to installing this new flooring. Not only does it look great, but it will feel great to dancer feet.

PEOPLE

Goooooooo TEAM!

hi, Kristin!

headshot of Heidi Tansom

hi, Heidi!

Team Phipps grew just the tiniest bit over the past few weeks. Big, huge welcome to Kristin Prideaux, our new Team Assistant, and Heidi Tansom, our new Development Associate.

Kristin will be working part-time in our administrative office. She’ll most likely be the friendly voice you hear when you call for tickets, or the friendly face you see when you swing by to grab some Phipps info. She’s friendly. Did I mention that?

Heidi comes to us via an anonymous grant aimed at helping the Phipps with fundraising. Her task: RAISE ALL THE MONIES. She doesn’t like the title “Development Associate” (I admit, it’s stuffy); she prefers to be addressed as Queen of Development. If the gif below becomes Phipps reality, we’ll go ahead and call her that. 😉

Looooove this piece. Water media on cement coated panel.
Don’t miss Layne’s work. It’s really wonderful!

VISUAL ARTS

Cool art alert

collection of small paintings hung around a larger map

If you weren’t able to attend last Friday’s opening reception for the new gallery exhibitions, you missed out on a fun night.

One particular exhibition will most likely appeal to you east-siders: “From Saint Paul to Hudson: Views along the Mississippi and Saint Croix Rivers” — work by Jeanne Ross.

Alongside some beautiful paintings of St. Paul, Jeanne has a section that focuses on what’s right outside the Phipps. Each piece is numbered and there’s a map in the center with the locations she used as her POV for each painting.

It’s pretty fun. I’d swing by and check it out if I were you.
