Let’s take a tap class

Four women in a tap class

Adult Tap just knows how to have fun

I got an email the other day from my new friend, Barb, who was going on and on about how much fun her Phipps tap class is and how I should also take the class. She was already selling me pretty hard on it, but then she broke out the big guns:

Just think about how incredibly cool you would be if you were a tap-dancing executive director!!

email friend Barb

Listen, I do plenty of metaphorical tap dancing all the time as Executive Director (just ask our board of directors), but I haven’t actually tap danced since college. Barb has me thinking about it.

THE WEEKEND

Farewell, Summer

My wife and I were able to hit the MN State Fair on Saturday, so our summer is officially over. ☹️ What was on our agenda? Glad you asked…

  • mini donuts

  • Fine Arts building

  • Sweet Martha’s Cookies (cup not bucket to avoid type 2 diabetes)

  • Agriculture Building

    • Frozen cider and seed art

  • Food Building

    • Fish n Chips and Egg Roll on a Stick

  • Eco Experience

  • random kiosk shopping

That list is fairly small and I’m not happy about how little we actually ate, but we also weren’t there all day.

I’m not the biggest state fair guy, but when one of my coworkers (coughLeeAnncough) said that Sweet Martha’s was nothing more than glorified Chips Ahoy, well…them’s fightin’ words.

Do you attend the MN State Fair? If so, do you have must-see attractions, or do you just wing it? Hit “reply” and let me know!

my favorite gallery piece of the week
This photo doesn’t do the piece justice. You really need to see these works in person (Overlook Gallery). Here’s how this artwork is made (from her rack card):

Photo encaustic begins with an original photo processed through software to emphasize certain aspects such as contrast or exposure. The photo is printed on tissue paper using a large format printer then incorporated onto a rigid substrate that has been prepared with five or more layers of encaustic medium. Encaustic medium is composed of beeswax and damar resin heated to approx. 200 degrees F. The medium is brushed on hot and fused to the previous layer using a torch or heat gun. The tissue paper photo is encapsulated using more layers of medium. Color and texture are then added on top of the fused photograph allowing for a wide variety of translucent and textural effects.
