The Fringe Train is Leaving the Station

and how to spiff up a Mazda Miata šŸš—

Hello! I’m Ben, executive director at the Phipps.

Welcome to The Flying P, a weekly newsletter covering your Phipps Center for the Arts and anything else I might want to throw your way.

Big thanks to all of you who filled out last issue’s survey. I learned a lot about you (yes you). Will it make me better at my job? Doubtful. Here’s to another year of the Flying P!

This issue has…

  • šŸ‘ŗ Masks for You
October is right around the corner

  • šŸŽ A Final Fringe Plug
you only have 4 more chances

Little Shop at Pepper Fest

now THAT’s how you drive a Miata

Hey, didja catch us in the Pepper Fest parade?

We grabbed two (yes, two) cars for this one — that’s how serious we are about Little Shop of Horrors — and cruised through the parade, singing at the top of our lungs. We also went all in with the flower decorations. See pics for proof.

If this looks like fun, you (yes, you) can participate in the next one. Just sign up to be a PCA volunteer and we’ll get in touch the next time there’s a parade that needs walkin’.

whadda group!

PROGRAMMING

Last call for Fringe

I know I’m not supposed to market to you in this newsletter, but I’m technically saying this in my capacity as a MN Fringe fan, as opposed to a Phipps employee: YOU GOTTA GET OUT AND SEE A FRINGE SHOW!

Depending on when you read this, you have 4 more chances: tonight (Thursday) at 7pm, Friday at 7pm, and Saturday at 2pm and 7pm.

Check out last week’s issue if you need a refresher on which show(s) to select. The Encore week opened last night with AMERICAN’T, and it was a lot of fun. Come on, gang. You can do it. Support adventurous art.

See you this weekend!

ā

I would like to see more new or riskier shows at the Phipps, likely in the black box, and would cross the river more often than I do now... I hope audiences would support something different & challenging.

Fringe Encore audience survey response

Me too, Encore audience member. Me too. 😊

RENTALS

Mask up!

my favorite mask

Phipps Halloween rentals are back by popular demand. Beginning September 29th, Bridget will be down in the costume shop ready to turn you into Han Solo or Elphaba or a giant chicken…whatever your weirdo heart desires. And each full costume is only $50! You can’t beat that.

THE FLYING C(rossword)

You finally made it to the end. How much did you retain? Test yourself by completing The Flying C(rossword).

THANKS FOR LISTENING

Struggle to read? That’s okay. Here’s a 30-second me-to-you moving picture to give your brain a rest. Enjoy!
